WHAT’S WRONG WITH ZOOS?

     We can start with rough definition of zoo, it is a facility in which animals are kept, displayed to the public, especially to the children under the name of education, primarily for the purposes of education and recreation.

      The very first point we should consider is “animals and liberty.” There is a moral presumption against keeping wild animals in captivity. This involves taking animals from their native habitats, transporting them to the zoos which are far away from their own land. By keeping them in the zoos, animals are deprived of lots of good things. They are prevented from gathering their own foods, developing their own skills in the nature, hunting, capturing and even running. If people want to see the wild animals in real life they can observe wildlife in the wild or visit a sanctuary.

     Zoos argue that they save endangered animals. The violation of the rights of the individual animals is unjustifiable. We do not have the right to breed, capture and confine other animals even if they are endangered. Being a member of endangered animals doesn’t mean the individual animals have fewer rights. Zoos also argue that they their aim to give the education to the children, as well. If zoos are teaching children anything, it’s that imprisoning animals for our own entertainment is acceptable.

     Put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel and react if you got taken from your family, your own living place and got put in a jail, between 4 walls? If zoos are for endangered animals to protect them, then this idea lose its benefit when an animal feels stressed, depressed and this depression causes its death in the zoo.

     To sum up in a sentence, “zoos UPSET the balance of nature.”
